Success on the fireground begins with sound Engine Company practices and skills. Rig to Fire Engine Ops focuses on the essential practices of stretching and advancing the attack line. We will visit the basic functions of stretching and advancing along with learning common principles to help the firefighter accomplish these functions. In this class, we will cover stretching preconnected attack lines, stretching from a static hose bed, and estimating the stretch. Students will also learn methods for hoseline operations on when to flow & advance or when to hit & move with the line. Students will learn tips on when to perform each function along with the most practical ways of keeping the line moving on the fire with a staffing model that matches their department. The principles covered in this class are based on successfut as well as unsuccessful experiences on the fireground and nationally recognized engine company principles and practices. Among other topics to be discussed include hose loads, line position, decision making when on the hoseline, and best practices of the engine company FIREFIGHTER. The skills that will be required are effective, safe, inexpensive and can be applied immediately.

LEAD INSTRUCTORS- DAYLON HAYES & RUSSELL HAYES

Cross-lays and pre-connects are not always an option on the fire ground to establish a fire attack. This class will focus on the importance and understanding of having options with various hose bundles carried on the Engine to achieve a quick and effective fire attack. The fire ground is becoming even more challenging due to larger buildings and even longer than normal setbacks. This requires the firefighter to have the ability to quickly recognize the need for a hose package that isn't the normal cross-lay or pre-connect. Participants will be instructed on how to create the extended Line using various hose loads coupled with hose bundles. The use of high-rise bundles and how they are deployed in a clean or dirty environment as well as building an exterior standpipe. Participants will also be shown how a normal cross-lay can be converted into a bundle to create a break and take/coupling drop as well as Rope Jug deployments. Participants will take away the understanding of why hose bundles are important tools for the Engine Company. The pros of an extended line are to reduce friction loss while keeping our needed GPM. Participants will also learn the advantage of stretching vertically using various methods. The students will learn to recognize when to deploy high-rise bundles for a clean or dirty environment and when building an exterior standpipe may be a faster, easier option.

LEAD INSTRUCTORS- BRANDON LEE & GARLAND MAURER

In this 8 hour block we will examine search operations from several past calls to include challenges, successes, failures, and key takeaways to prepare you for your next job. Class is based off actual calls from entry to victim removal - where theory met reality. Scenarios include live victims in furnished rooms including hoarder conditions. Participants will work on residential forcible entry, search techniques and victim drags. Come and develop a systematic approach to accessing, locating, and removing victims.

LEAD INSTRUCTOR- TIM ANDERSON

Emergency rope rescue on the fireground to reach otherwise inaccessible victims is not just a tactic for big city fire departments. Do you have structures in your response area with living spaces unreachable by an FD Ladder? Then you need to have a rope-based option. This Class will engage participants with the skills to undertake this efficient and often misunderstood rescue technique, utilizing different tools and deployment options. Students will leave having been exposed to the utility of fireground roof rope rescue and will be equipped to bring firsthand knowledge back to their agencies. Where there's rope, there's hope!

Vertical ventilation is a tried-and-true, highly effective way of releasing smoke and heat from structures. This tactic not only increases survival chances for people trapped inside, but it also makes conditions more tenable for search and fire attack. -When and where to make ventilation openings -Ground ladder selection and placement -Venting knee wall spaces in half story buildings -Roof construction and how conditions affect them -Cut patterns and efficiency
