RICHARD RAY
Richard Ray is a Battalion Chief for the City of Durham (NC) Fire Dept. He has garnered over 32 years of valuable experience in both volunteer and career departments. He has been fortunate enough to instruct on a national level, to contribute regularly to Fire Engineering, and is a member of the FDIC International Advisory Board as well as a tech panel member for the esteemed UL FSRI.
TIM ANDERSON
Tim Anderson has been in the fire service for 22 years and is the founder of Anderson Rescue Solutions, an equipment design company outfitting high threat professionals with proven gear that works in reality. During his time with the DFD he was assigned to Ladder Company 12 in South Durham. He previously spent 14 years with the Philadelphia Fire Department, serving the majority of his time in Special Operations.
JAMES HICKS
James Hicks has been in the fire service for 23 years, with 12 of them being a career fireman with the Durham Fire Department. Before becoming the driver of Rescue 1 in 2020, he spent 3 years as a driver on Ladder 2. James has been a certified fire instructor in VA since 2009 and teaches throughout multiple states with Premier Extrication. James is a third-generation firefighter and is a big advocate for truck work.
CARL HAMLIN
Carl Hamlin is a 32 year veteran of the fire service with both volunteer and career experience. He started his service in 1991 as a member of the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Dept (Orange Co., NC). He started as a career firefighter with the Durham Fire Department in 1997, where he serves as a Captain on the rescue company (Rescue 1) and also as an adjunct instructor fir the training division. Since 2015, he is the Technical Rescue Coordinator for the Durham Fire Department and oversees all the technical rescue training department wide. He is a ISFAC certified instructor who is qualified in live fire, technical rescue, and ladder company operations. He has presented at the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo (SAFRE), served as an adjunct instructor at the south eastern Extraction School (SC), and at the NC Extraction School. He is a member of the International Society of Fire Service Instructors.
BRANDON LEE
Brandon Lee has been a member of the fire service for 17 years with all of them being in the City of Durham. Brandon is a Captain assigned to Ladder Company 2. He is a member of the Technical Rescue Team in Durham. He has taught numerous academies and is heavily involved with training members to a high standard. Brandon believes in hard work, day in and day out, whether it be in the station or on the fire ground.
GARLAND MAURER
Garland Maurer is a 23 year veteran of the fire service. He is currently the A-Shift company officer assigned to Rescue 1 in Durham, NC. Additionally, he serves as the Deputy Chief of the Redwood Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of the Durham Technical Rescue Team and NCTF-8 USAR for the last 14 years. Garland has also previously served as a member of the Safety and Training Division with the DFD, and is an instructor with the Durham Tech Fire Academy.
DAYLON HAYES
Daylon Hayes is a 14 year veteran of the City of Durham Fire Department. Daylon is currently assigned as the boss on Engine Co 1 in downtown. He is also the Deputy Chief of the Eno Fire Department where he has 23 years of service. Daylon prides himself on stretching often with his crew on various buildings around the district. He has a passion for finding the difficult stretches and making sure he and his crew have a game plan. Daylon has been a lead instructor for many fire academies and put together numerous training opportunities in his respective departments, and with the local community college. Daylon is a professional in all things Engine and strives to find solutions for difficult situations he may encounter on the fire ground in both urban and rural settings.
RUSSELL HAYES
Russell Hayes is a 26-year veteran of the fire service with all 26 being in the City of Durham. Russell is currently assigned as the Captain of Engine Company 9 and is one of the Senior Captains on shift. Russell has been a volunteer with the Eno Fire Department for 9 years and serves as a valuable asset to the training staff of Eno as well. He is an instructor with the First Choice Training Division and believes in aggressive firefighting.
JEFF HANNUM
Jeff Hannum has been a member of the fire service for 15 years, 10 of those years being with the City of Durham. Jeff is currently assigned to the Durham Fire Department Training Division at the ASCTE. Previously, Jeff was assigned to Rescue 1, C-Shift. He is a leader in the Training Division within Durham and is a lead instructor for the DFD Academy. Jeff is a fourth-generation fireman and believes in training and sharing knowledge to better the fire service.
RODNEY SELLERS
Rodney Sellers is a 31-year veteran of the fire service, with 28 of them being with the City of Durham. He isa Captain currently assigned to the DFD Training Division at the ASCTE. Previously, he was assigned as the Boss on Ladder Company 3 in East Durham. Captain Sellers has been a lead instructor for the Academy for 20+ years. He is a certified live fire instructor and technical rescue instructor. Captain Sellers believes in training the future of the fire service to the highest standard with no exceptions.
